Inside the Fully Electric Mercedes-Benz VISION EQXX
Most people know Mercedes-Benz as one of the most popular luxury car manufacturers in the world. But this company is also one of the most innovative. Did you know that the German car maker invented the first electric vehicle in 1906? It’s also behind some of the most useful features in modern automobiles. These include anti-lock brakes, the four-wheel independent suspension, and safety crumple zones. Mercedes-Benz is again at the forefront of automotive innovation. It launched in January the Mercedes VISION EQXX, a concept electric vehicle. This car represents innovations in future Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Soon it will grace the floors of local dealerships such as Mercedes-Benz of Morgantown.
Most Efficient Electric Vehicle
With the Mercedes VISION EQXX, Mercedes-Benz has created the most efficient electric vehicle. This car can travel more than 620 miles on a single charge, making it the most efficient electric vehicle. What’s amazing about the EQXX is that it’s not your typical concept car. It’s an actual vehicle that Mercedes-Benz has built. And the company plans to use the features and innovations of the EQXX in their future production vehicles. You’ll also be impressed that it only took 18 months for the luxury car manufacturer to design and build the vehicle. If a car as efficient as the VISION EQXX becomes available at Mercedes-Benz of Morgantown, it will surely be a bestseller.
Realistic Design
Most concept cars are designed to look like vehicles from the distant future. Not the Mercedes VISION EQXX, however. Gordon Wagener, the vehicle’s chief designer, insisted on designing a vehicle that looked like a real car. You now have an idea of the design of the future models you’ll see in the showroom of Mercedes-Benz of Morgantown.
The design of the Mercedes VISION EQXX is also geared towards efficiency. It achieves an awe-inspiring aerodynamic efficiency with a 0.17 coefficient of drag (Cd). Modern cars usually have 0.25 to 0.30 Cd. Mercedes-Benz achieved the feat through clever engineering and installing an extending rear diffuser in the concept vehicle.
The Mercedes VISION EQXX has a generous wheelbase of 110 inches and lightweight magnesium wheels. It also has an electric-only chassis with a lightweight F1 subframe. Moreover, Mercedes-Benz aspires to be the leader in using sustainable and cruelty-free materials. It uses cactus fibers, mycelium, and vegan silk for the interior of its new concept vehicle.
A Lightweight Vehicle
By using lightweight materials and the latest prototyping innovations, Mercedes-Benz was able to pare down the weight of the Mercedes VISION EQXX to a measly 3,858 pounds. It seems unrealistic considering that current battery packs with a 100-kWh capacity weigh more than 1,000 pounds.
Instead of creating a larger battery pack to increase efficiency, Mercedes-Benz developed an energy-dense battery. The battery is 30% lighter and 50% smaller than current batteries. You may not see a vehicle as light as the Vision EQXX at Mercedes-Benz of Morgantown anytime soon. Nonetheless, you now have an idea of the future weight of electric vehicles.
The Mercedes VISION EQXX is a sign of great things to come at Mercedes-Benz of Morgantown in Morgantown, WV. While waiting for the future, why don’t you browse the new and used vehicles currently in our inventory?
